Role Summary

The Assistant Estimator works under the Senior Estimator to produce cohesive estimates for unique, high-end residential projects. This is a growth role for someone early in their estimating career who is organized, detail-oriented, and strong with numbers, and who wants to build real fluency in what high-end residential construction costs and why.

Key Outcomes

Estimates reflect the build, not just the plans

• Plans and architectural drawings are reviewed critically, and estimating strategy is shaped with the Senior Estimator
• Requests for clarification go to the design team before gaps become assumptions

Subcontractor coverage is complete and on time

• Bid solicitation is supported so every assigned trade has qualified bids when the estimate needs them
• Bid presentations have accurate support material behind them

Cost knowledge compounds

• Working knowledge of material unit costs, system square-foot costs, and total building costs grows with every project
• Historical cost data is studied and analyzed so future estimates start smarter

The details hold up

• Quantity takeoffs, change order pricing, and site visit notes are accurate and usable
• Clients experience follow-through that maintains their confidence in the company

Qualifications

Required

• College degree related to Construction Management or Architecture, or equivalent industry experience
• Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications with working proficiency
• Solid mathematical aptitude with close attention to detail
• Proficiency in Excel and Word
• Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship; local candidates only

Preferred

• 1 to 2 years of related estimating experience
• Experience in high-end residential construction
• Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, and MS Project familiarity
• Some project management exposure

Work Environment

Office-based in Palo Alto, with some travel between the office and project sites spanning the Peninsula up to San Francisco.
