Current projects range from approximately $1M to $8M in value, including a $6.5M renovation in San Francisco.

The company is intentionally small and hands-on, with a focus on quality execution, clear communication, and long-term client relationships.

Position Summary

The Foreman/Assistant Superintendent supports day-to-day field operations on active residential construction projects. This role is responsible for coordinating subcontractors, maintaining site readiness, documenting project activity, and helping keep work progressing safely and efficiently.

Initially, this position will focus on active San Francisco project. As the company grows, the role may expand to support additional projects in San Francisco, Marin, and the Peninsula.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role. The Foreman/Assistant Superintendent will spend most of their time on active job sites supporting daily construction operations.

Current work is located in San Francisco, with future projects anticipated in Marin and the Peninsula. Travel between project sites may be required. A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a practical commute tolerance of approximately 30–45 minutes are required.

Site Operations Run Smoothly

• Trades know where they need to be, what work is ready, and what the next priority is
• Site conditions are ready before each trade arrives, reducing downtime, confusion, and rework
• Schedule gaps, trade conflicts, and MEP coordination issues are caught early enough to protect the project plan
• Handoffs between trades are clear, sequenced, and aligned with current site conditions
• The job site remains clean, organized, and safe without requiring constant oversight

Communication and Documentation Are Reliable

• The project team has a clear, current picture of what happened on site each day
• Photos, site notes, and lookahead schedules are accurate enough to support weekly planning and decision-making
• Open issues, punch list items, and maintenance needs are visible, organized, and easy to act on
• The owner and office team are not chasing basic field updates or wondering where things stand

Problems Are Surfaced Early

• Drawing gaps, scope conflicts, quality concerns, and potential RFIs are identified before they disrupt work
• Field issues come with enough context for the team to make timely decisions
• Risks are raised while there is still time to adjust the plan, not after they have become delays or added cost
• Small issues are handled or escalated before they become larger project problems

The Role Expands with Responsibility

• Within 3 months, daily field coordination and documentation are being handled with consistency
• Within 6 months, routine sequencing and site coordination decisions are being made with limited oversight
• Within 12–18 months, the person is positioned to take on broader Superintendent-level responsibility as the company grows

Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years of experience in high-end residential construction
• At least 2 years in a foreman, lead, assistant superintendent, or similar field leadership role
• Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors on active job sites
• Strong understanding of residential construction sequencing, methods, and quality standards
• Clear and direct communication style
• Ability to work independently and manage daily field priorities
• Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred

• Background in a trade such as carpentry, framing, finish work, or a related field
• Familiarity with San Francisco residential construction, permitting, inspections, or local building requirements
• Comfort with basic documentation tools, including phone-based logs, photos, and simple spreadsheets
• Experience working with an APM, project manager, or office-based construction team
• Interest in growing into a Superintendent or Project Manager role

Possible Backgrounds

Open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds, including:

• Lead carpenter ready to take on broader site coordination responsibilities
• Foreman or assistant superintendent from a residential builder
• Assistant project manager with strong field experience
• Project manager who prefers a more hands-on role in the field

Compensation

Base salary: $90,000–$120,000, depending on experience and qualifications, plus bonus potential.

This role offers a path toward Superintendent-level responsibility as the company continues to grow.
