There is a lot of pandering, click-baiting, bad advice on LinkedIn for job seekers which discourages personal responsibility and discernment and instead suggests corporate discrimination (of many sorts) is the root of job-seeker woes. Oleg Vishnepolsky and Liz Ryan are notable viral examples (not that I want them to get any more positive attention). Their posts attract thousands of comments and likes.
It’s BS. A heaping pile of BS designed to sidle up to you like some sort of obsequious sycophant and draw your ‘like’ or ‘follow’. It’s theoretical arrogant condescension designed to make them look smart and give candidates justifications by issuing put-downs on invisible others.
Don’t fall for it.
In this market, if you have been passed on by numerous A player firms who do the work you specialize in, you need to rethink your strategy, perspective, skillset, relationships, etc, etc… Something is wrong and you only get to control you. Job seekers who whine about not getting a job have no concept of the responsibilities hiring authorities have, and because of that, would be a terrible hire.
Furthermore, if you are passed on it just might be your lucky day and you don’t know it. Some companies are toxic places.
